ILHA DO MEL (Honey Island)
Ilha do Mel is an Ecological Conservation Unit (CU)* of the
state of Parana in Brazil and has in the richness and variety of its flora and
fauna one of its main characteristics. It still preserves in its secular
buildings, the memory of important parts of brazilian history. Its geography
provides beautiful scenery and great walks. In addition to that, it´s
ideal for the practice of several sports.
Discover
the history, geography and ecosystem of the island
described in a simple but basically in scientific manner. May this information also be the
basis for educational and academic research aiming a greater understanding and
dissemination of this heritage of humanity.
(*) Conservation Units
Space planning, including jurisdictional waters and their components, with
special natural characteristics of public or private, legally established by the
Government, for the protection of nature, with goals, limits and specific
management and administration, which is subject to appropriate guarantees and
protection.
There are several other protected areas in the State of Paraná including the
Ecological Station Ilha do Mel.
